What a phenomenal designer. Iris is a master at textile manipulation (some even said interns manipulations (but that’s just all rumors 👀), it is what she is known for and has perfected over a long period of time. Undoubtedly, one of the most innovative designers of our time.
Just look at this splash dress.
Back in 2009 when she partnered up with Benthem & Crouwel, an architecture firm in Amsterdam, who wanted her to make a dress inspired by the museum that the architecture firm was designing. To Iris, the museum resembled a bathtub, and that’s the idea she honed in on, inspiring the aforementioned splash dress! It was also one of her first attempts to incorporate 3D printing into her work, which was not a popular technology among designers back then.
However, if we look at Iris Van Herpen’s upbringing, her designs make much more sense.
