It was a strong statement, planting a flag in Chloé’s ground, telling the brand’s die-hard fans and newcomers that her design language and cultural and environmental consciousness are going to set her apart from previous reigns. Or, in many’s hearts, THE Chloé designer, Phoebe Philo. Despite the doubt, the debut collection and numerous that followed showed Hearst as an artist with something to say, a designer who came to Chloé at the right place and time. Their Spring 2022 RTW collection would be another example proving Gabriella’s talent if it even needs to be proven. With consistency, Gabriella showed the world what they could expect walking into a Chloe show.
So what went wrong?
